Race report by Tony:
Amblezarke Amble 2026
I entered this event as a ‘time on the feet’ exercise in my quest to return to bigger things after last year. Ive lost 1.5 stones since Benidorm and Im feeling quite good about my running.
This is an LDWA event so as such not a race and there are no official results however many people run the long course so the front end of the long (24 miles) course ends up being a race! A return to winter and minus 4 DegC greeted the runners at the 9am start although the day promised sunshine so spirts were high. I started steadily with a plan to run as much as I could but at a steady pace so I could run ‘longer’ and all went well for the for the run up over the pike and two lads to the mast. Ice became an issue higher up and 3 people slipped and broke wrists on the recently laid ‘flags’. At this point I realised that I’d been getting into ‘racing’ battles with people around me so I changed my mindset in order achieve my aforementioned goals for the day. Throttling back on my effort made the run much more enjoyable and I achieved my goal of running 90% of the course with 55% of that being in threshold zone. Thanks to Josie (currently protecting an injury so not officially running) for being great company for half of the route. Same time as 2022, 24.5 miles and 3700ft covered.
