Discover Running with Lostock AC’s Couch to 5K!

Have you ever thought about taking up running but weren’t sure where to start? At Lostock AC, our Couch to 5K programme is designed to help complete beginners build confidence, improve fitness and discover just how enjoyable running can be.

Following the success of our 10-week Couch to 5K course, which began in January, we’re delighted to be running our third programme.

Course Details

📅 Start Date: Thursday 3 September 2026
Time: 6:30pm
📍 Location: Blackrod Sports and Community Centre, Vicarage Road, Blackrod, BL6 5TG
💷 Cost: Free

The programme will run for 10 weeks, ending with a Parkrun on 14 November 2026.

Our Couch to 5K programme is about so much more than running. It’s about making new friends, building confidence, improving your health and wellbeing, and becoming part of a welcoming and supportive running community.

Every participant is encouraged at their own pace by our qualified coaches and friendly club members, making the journey enjoyable from the very first session.

Lostock AC 5K Improvers

Ready for your next running challenge?

If you’ve completed a Couch to 5K programme, regularly run 5K, or can comfortably complete a Parkrun, our 5K Improvers could be the perfect next step.

Designed to help runners gradually and safely increase their distance, this 10-week programme will build your endurance, confidence and fitness as you work towards completing a 10K run.

Led by experienced Lostock AC Run Leaders, the programme provides a supportive and encouraging environment where runners of all abilities can progress at their own pace. You’ll benefit from structured weekly sessions, expert guidance, and the motivation that comes from training alongside others with a shared goal.

As with all Lostock AC activities, this is about more than just running. It’s an opportunity to meet new people, stay active, improve your wellbeing and become part of a friendly and welcoming running community.

Who is the programme for?

This programme is suitable for anyone who:

  • Can already run 5K comfortably without stopping
  • Has recently completed a Couch to 5K programme
  • Regularly participates in Parkrun
  • Wants to increase their distance and work towards running 10K

Whether your goal is to complete your first 10K event or simply improve your endurance, our Run Leaders will support you every step of the way.

Heather’s 25th Parkrun

There were some outstanding results at Parkrun. At Bolton Parkrun, Lostockers celebrated Heather Soden’s 25th Parkrun. Soden finished in 28:16 securing 2nd in her age category. Andy Kirks had an awesome run, finishing in 22:57 for a Bolton PB. Other Bolton results include: Lee Burns 28:51, Bev Atherton-McKenna 29:00, Dougie Ainsworth 30:26 and Lynda Hardman ... Race report by Greg: Today me and Janet travelled to Lancaster to take part in the Golden Balls run. There’s a Ten mile and 20mile option. 2 laps out and back for the 20. Joining Lostock AC has been one of the best things that's ever happened to me. I decided to give it a try mainly to loose weight and meet new people. It's really helped with my weight, mental health and output on life. I've been in the club over a year now. Everyone makes you feel so welcome and I love being part of the Lostock family. My running has definitely improved, especially seeing all the medals I've won. It is not just running, Lostock offers other activities too such as cycling, bootcamp and skiing. All I've had a go at which has just been brilliant. Lostock is my second family . I have entered the Machester marathon next year and an ultra. All this for someone who couldn't run . Everyone has made me feel very welcome in the club, I now consider myself to be a runner and would recommend anyone to give Lostock a try.

I joined Lostock AC to help improve my running and to motivate me to run more often. The club has surpassed my expectations. I am not from Bolton originally and did not have many friends in the area. I now feel part of an extended family. I have been encouraged and supported to run half marathons, marathons and an Ultra. I would never believe this was possible 3 years ago.
