Lostock AC members ended 2024 with a bang by taking place in the Tails and Ales New Year’s Eve Fell Race. This is a 7 miles trail race that covers a tough elevation gain of
The race starts at The Little Tea Room, and it started by a piper playing the bag pipes. The first mile is a tough climb up Roynton Road, all the way along to road to the Lower House car park and then turned to follow St Georges Road up to the Pigeon Tower. Participants then had the gruelling climb up to the top of the Pike. It was a cold and windy day and temperatures at the top of the Pike were extremely cold.
After running down the Pike, runners rejoined St Georges Lane and then headed up Two Lads. It was then a loop around the very murky Burnt Edge, many runners found their trainers extremely muddy and wet as they headed towards Wilderswood. It was then a refreshing downhill towards the finish line.
The first Lostocker to cross the finish line was David W in an impressive 1:06:54. He was followed by Andy in 1:10:53. The first Lostock female was Nikki who finished in an epic 1:13:53 winning her age category. She was followed by Brian in 1:15:39, Greg in 1:20:29and Tony in 1:21:37. Rachel and Sheila ran the race together, finishing in 1:44:17.
Participants do not receive a medal for taking part in the race but receive a well-earned pasty and pint in the Crown Pub. This is an excellent was to kick of the New Years Eve celebrations.
