Lostock AC members excelled at the annual Leo Pollard Duathlon. The duathlon is for Lostock AC members, family and friends. It is a friendly competition and both beginners and seasoned professionals can take part. Participants can complete the duathlon solo or be part of a relay.
The Duathlon begins with a 5k bike ride starting at on Georges Lane, Horwich at the top of Wilderswood. The cycle starts with a fast decent along Georges Lane, then turning left on MatchmoorLane. It is then a climb up Burnt Edge Lane to Mast Road where the run commences. The first person to complete the cycle was Alan who was completing the rely and handed over to his partner Greg, to complete the run. The next to arrive in the transition area was Julian, who was completing the event solo.
The run covered just 1.7 miles but this was a tough run, heading back along Georges Lane and over Two Lads. Although Greg had a good lead thanks to Alan, he was no match for Julian. The seasoned trail runner was able to catch him on the climb to Two Lads.
After run, it was back to the bikes to repeat the original loop.
Julian was this first to finish in an epic 36:20, Alan followed shortly behind in 37:40, securing first position in the replay with his teammate Greg.
Clive was the first solo Lostock AC member to finish in 44:26 and third in the solo David in 52:40.
The first all Lostock AC team to finish was Janet who completed the cycle and Sally who completed the run, they finished in 49:59, followed by Mary and Alan S in 50:00, Karen and James i 51:36 and close on their tails were Rachel and Ste in 52:18.
For those who did not wish to take part in the duathlon, there was the option to run the route (completing just one loop of the cycle course). Heather was the first back in 49:05, followed by Brian in 50:50, Ian J in 50:54, Chris (who was initially winning but took a wrong turn) in 50:55 and Ian B in 55:34.
