Race report by Josie:
The Hebden 2026
What a morning out! A fantastic turnout of 16 Lostockers (I think 😬) travelled to West Yorkshire VERY EARLY this morning to run round the surrounding hills of Mytholmroyd and Hebden Bridge.
The Hebden 22 is a challenging annual long-distance walking and running event featuring strenuous climbs, varied terrain, and checkpoints. Organised by the Halifax Sea Scouts as a fundraiser, runners have a choice of 15 or 22 miles and must self navigate the tough route with the promise of food and drink at the finish!
The event fills up every year and attracts everyone from social walkers to serious fell runners. This year had a bumper turnout from Lostock AC including hardened roadrunners, first timers and those returning for a PB! Most of the club chose to run together as a team, supporting each other with the navigation but a few made it round on their own steam.
The weather was extremely kind and perfect for running in. The same cannot be said for the underfoot conditions which were typical of the Hebden – muddy, slippy, with lots of cobbles, steps, and stiles to climb over.
Everyone has their own story to tell so it would be nice to read some of your experiences in the comments please.
I personally set off alone with the view to doing the 22mile route. Unfortunately, I made the decision to drop to the 15 due to knee pain. In doing so, I arrived at the finish & had the pleasure of watching all my club mates come in looking elated with their run which was a joy! ☺️ Likewise, Tony Marlow arrived at the finish earlier than expected after also dropping to the 15 feeling unwell.
A special mention to Janet, Daniel and Greg who DID complete the 22 in a great time. Im a sure we’ll hear about the challenges of that extra 7 miles & the navigation that goes with it. Won’t we Greg?🫣🤣
Congratulations to everyone who took part! We had some fantastic PB’s. Who’s looking forward to the 2027 edition already?🥳
Sending get well wishes and a hot toddy to Fell Captain Mark Shuttleworth who sadly missed out today due to the lurgy 😷🤒
