Race report by Josie:
This weekend, Tony Marlow & I teamed up on the Saunderse Lakeland Mountain Marathon which started at Mickledon in Langdale. The event involves navigating to controls/features that are marked on a map whilst carrying everything needed for 2 days including tent, stove and food (a very heavy pack!). As Tony is only 10weeks post surgery, we dropped to a shorter class than usual but the same challenges arose!
Day 1 was very wet & windy with minimal visibility. After enduring over 4&half hours up mountains in some miserable weather, we arrived at midcamp cold but in 16th place from 118 starters.
The weather improved on day 2 along with our motivation and performance. We challenged ourselves on some serious terrain to get the most optimum lines and finished day 2 in a fantastic 10th place and 1st Vets. This put our overall position for the weekend as 12th & 2nd Vets. 🎉 A great result. Thanks Tony 😊
