It was initially presumed that the race would be cancelled but despite the mud, the race was on! The muddy conditions made this a tough race and participants described the route as ‘brutal.’
The ladies were the first to race, starting at 1.35pm, they completed 3 laps of a water logged field, covering 5k.
The first Lostock AC member across the finish line was Louise Read in 29:10, followed by Melonie Crompton in 31:11. Heather Sodden crossed the finish line in 33:06 winning her age category and Gillian Caldwell finished in 40:44, achieving second in her age category.
The men’s race started at 2:15. The men’s race is a longer race, covering 4.5 miles. The first across the finish line in 43:39 was James Jackson, followed by Greg Kilshaw in 48:15, Andy Laycock in 50:10 and Markus Checkley in 58:50.
Lostock AC members saw out 2025 and welcomed in 2026 in characteristically energetic fashion, tackling challenging fell races, Parkruns and milestone celebrations across the country. Celebrations continued on 3 January at Clarence parkrun, where Janet, Bev, Brian and Greg all completed their 50th Parkruns, with the occasion made even more special as it coincided with Bev’s birthday. New Year’s Day saw Lostock members swap the fells for parks as they began 2026 in running shoes. At Haigh Woodland Parkrun, Antony Sutton led the club home in 26:48, followed by Matt W (29:44), Katie (30:13), Carol (30:40) and Ian B (31:22).
