Race report by Janet:

A cracker of an 8 mile trail/ fell race. Not quite sure which it is. A really accessible intro to fell running in the Lakes. There’s even a nice 11am start, so time to travel up to Grange Over Sands and squeeze in nearby Fell Foot Park run! The race is good value at £15, well marshalled, sign posted and it’s extremely friendly but with plenty of club competition. The course record was smashed today in 49 minutes!

Organised by Allithwaite RC, we even got free sandwiches and a cup of tea for travelling in a car of three. Great idea to reduce parking. The route itself is lovely, fast and flowing, with a small stream crossing and a Wainwright to bag somewhere in the middle (Hampsfell) 220m. The course is stunning with a bit of everything. Plus lots of ups and downs to keep it interesting and a great view of the valley and Morecambe bay at the top.

The race celebrated 10 years today and all 134 runners received a chocolate wolf, a nod to the wild wolves that roamed the area in the 14th century. We stayed to cheer in the final runner who is ceremonially awarded the title of Last Wolf!

The small but experienced Lostock team brought home the chocolate today. Congratulations to Sheila who won her new FV 70 age category and Mary who continued her dominance of the FV 75 for the second year running. Both won a huge locally made chocolate wolf plaque. Seriously impressive ladies.

The Lostock results were;
Janet Rhodes, 1 hour 15, 2nd Fv50 but sadly no chocolate. Dan woods 1 hour 17, 5th MW40 and an excellent return from injury, Tony Maxwell 1 hour 24, 7th MV 65 and ten minutes faster than last year, Mary White 1 hour 27, 1st FV75 and home in time for Scottish dancing, Sheila Garewal 1 hour 44. 1st FV 70 and stopped to take a photo at the top! It’s definitely one worth entering again next year but look out for it in July as it always sells out.

Joining Lostock AC has been one of the best things that's ever happened to me. I decided to give it a try mainly to loose weight and meet new people. It's really helped with my weight, mental health and output on life. I've been in the club over a year now. Everyone makes you feel so welcome and I love being part of the Lostock family. My running has definitely improved, especially seeing all the medals I've won. It is not just running, Lostock offers other activities too such as cycling, bootcamp and skiing. All I've had a go at which has just been brilliant. Lostock is my second family . I have entered the Machester marathon next year and an ultra. All this for someone who couldn't run . Everyone has made me feel very welcome in the club, I now consider myself to be a runner and would recommend anyone to give Lostock a try.

I joined Lostock AC to help improve my running and to motivate me to run more often. The club has surpassed my expectations. I am not from Bolton originally and did not have many friends in the area. I now feel part of an extended family. I have been encouraged and supported to run half marathons, marathons and an Ultra. I would never believe this was possible 3 years ago.

I’m proud to be a member of Lostock AC, it’s an inclusive club with lovely people, there’s plenty of sporting activities to get involved in and the social get togethers are always welcoming and fun.
