Chicken run in Hayfield. Race report by Mark (Checkers).
A bit of a rough day, windy a bit chilly and squally hail showers. In some warped way I enjoy these conditions. Not a true fell race mostly on trails and a well marked and marshalled course. Almost didn’t make the start time. Still checking out the run into the finish. The run up Lantern Pike was slow, as there were a lot of stiles. Had a good run down gaining places. At the chicken out point I was feeling confident as I was still gaining even when the hail showers hit. The second climb at Crown hill edge felt easy. So I did the longer route. Knowing that the run back was largely contouring along the side of Lantern Pike. This time I didn’t tire coming into the finish. Completed the race in under 2hrs for the 8 and bit miles.
