  5. Ramsbottom Mile

20 Lostockers headed to Ramsbottom to take part in the Ramsbottom Mile, for the final instalment of the mid-week championships. This is a fantastic event, taking place in Nuttall Park in which runners run in different 12 different waves and try to run the fastest mile they can achieve.

A fantastic 295 took part in the event. Starting and finishing under the arch on the grass everyone goes off like a rocket, onto the path that surrounds the park, run around the roundabout of flowers and back on yourself to the finish.

The best thing about this event is the opportunity to support your club mates & fellow runners. As it’s in waves everyone is cheered around the course with all the route accessible to spectators. This makes for a unique experience with a tremendous atmosphere.

The first Lostocker was super speedy Paul Edwards who finished in 5:35. There were impressive runs by Gaz Foulkes (5:42) and Andy Kerks (5:47) who both finished in under 6 minutes.

In the 6 minutes bracket was Luke Baker who was just 2 seconds over finished in 6:02 achieving third in his age category. Greg Kilshaw (6:02) and Calum Ward (6:02) also just missed out on a sub 6-minute mile.

Jo McManus had an epic run finishing in 6:35. Shortly followed by Brian Halton (6:46), who was second in age category and  Chris Baker (6:53).

In the 7 minute category was Lee Burns (7:08), Andy Laycock (7:16), Sally McCoy (7:41), Tony Maxwell (7:42), Jenna Wood 7:45, Rachel Stevens (7:54) and Bev Atherton-McKenna (7:57).

Mary White was first in the 8 minute section finishing first in age category in 8:12. She was joined by Katie Edern (8:23), Gill Baker 8:45, Debbie Foulkes (8:48), Sheila Garewal (8:51) and Lynda Hardman.

It was a fantastic day and we are looking forward to next year’s event.

Joining Lostock AC has been one of the best things that's ever happened to me. I decided to give it a try mainly to loose weight and meet new people. It's really helped with my weight, mental health and output on life. I've been in the club over a year now. Everyone makes you feel so welcome and I love being part of the Lostock family. My running has definitely improved, especially seeing all the medals I've won. It is not just running, Lostock offers other activities too such as cycling, bootcamp and skiing. All I've had a go at which has just been brilliant. Lostock is my second family . I have entered the Machester marathon next year and an ultra. All this for someone who couldn't run . Everyone has made me feel very welcome in the club, I now consider myself to be a runner and would recommend anyone to give Lostock a try.

I joined Lostock AC to help improve my running and to motivate me to run more often. The club has surpassed my expectations. I am not from Bolton originally and did not have many friends in the area. I now feel part of an extended family. I have been encouraged and supported to run half marathons, marathons and an Ultra. I would never believe this was possible 3 years ago.

I’m proud to be a member of Lostock AC, it’s an inclusive club with lovely people, there’s plenty of sporting activities to get involved in and the social get togethers are always welcoming and fun.
