On Friday Lostock AC members Tony Marlow and Josie Greenhalgh headed to the Darwen Moors to compete in the Mr Sparkles Dark Un Fell Race.
The race started at the Royal Arms on Tockholes Road at 7:30pm so headtorches are required. This is a very popular 5.2mi/890ft race with only 100 entries available. The route passes Slipper Lowe before crossing the Tockholes road and climbing the Whitton Way up onto Darwen Moors. The wind was so strong across the moors which assisted participants along the route until it turned sharply and headed uphill along Duckshaw Clough into a strong headwind towards the moors. Thankfully, from here, we headed out of the wind and down a rough track and finished at the bottom of a field near the pub.
Marlow had a fantastic race finishing 35th in 47:39. Greenhalgh arrived shortly after as 4th Lady and 1st in her age category in an epic 48:11.

Race report by Jo: Our 6th Parkrun Championships fixture took us to our very own Haigh Hall, where 28 Lostockers raced around thick mud that felt more like January than June. Haigh being Haigh, the route gave us its usual mix of hills, more hills, and that one section where you’re convinced the ground is ... Parkrun Championship Haigh Hall
Race report by Josie: On Saturday, I travelled to the beautiful village of Buttermere in the Western Lake District to run The Buttermere Sailbeck Fell Race. A tough 15km (9.3mi)/ 1,315m (4314ft) mountain horseshoe over two distinct ridgelines. Although a relatively short fell race (for me), a lot of elevation is packed into the distance ...
