  5. Worsley Woods 5 Mile Trail Race

Race report by Gareth:

Yesterday another monster turnout of TWENTY Lostockers took part in the penultimate race on this years road/trail champs, the Worsley Woods 5 mile trail race.

It’s definitely a stretch calling this lovely event a trail race as you’re on tarmac for about 4 miles of the 5 miles lol. Starting bright & early at 9am in the pretty village of Roe Green (you wouldn’t think you were in Salford ๐Ÿคฃ) down some steps from registration & onto the Roe Green Loop Line, which is a traffic free walking/cycle route with woods & paths crisscrossing around. The first 2 miles are fast, pretty much all gently downhill on the loop line itself before you take a sharp right onto the Bridgewater Canal for a short section then another sharp right & onto some tree rooty trails & into the woods for a shortish loop before heading back onto the loop line & back on yourself for about half a mile, gently uphill this time. Next up is a sharp left up some steps for a bigger loop in the woods, a bit muddy & slippy & a tiny bit more technical but nothing road shoes couldn’t handle & before you know it you’re back onto the loop line for 1/2 mile gentle uphill sprint to the finish!

Too many people to mention everyone unfortunately (I’d be here all day) but big shout outs to Janet who was first Lostocker after a great battle with Philip who caught her at one point when she was having a mid race chill, Janet was also an an incredible 3rd place woman overall, which in such a hot race is a great achievement, she was also first FV50! Sally continues to shine & was first FV60 (out of 16!) and Gillian mopped up another age cat win & was first FV70. Three age cat wins in a race as competitive as this one is a great achievement for our club, well done ladies ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘.

Some great duels between club members again yesterday, Chris, Johanna & Sally had quite the tussle and were separated by a few seconds, farmer Brian chased Andy down all the way to the line and was a mere 5 seconds behind him & George put in a storming finish to overhaul good pal Terri & both showed up well after last weeks Warrington HM.

Special mentions to Paul who was in hospital on Wednesday & Thursday & is still unwell but put in a tremendous effort & Karen who was back racing again & has hopefully put her Achilles struggles behind her.

Just want to say how as captains we really appreciate so many members getting behind the club champs & CLGP in such fantastic numbers. Having 20 runners taking part is mightily impressive, we certainly punch well above our weight for a small club.

Many thanks for the great on course support & photography from Emma, Gillian & farmer David, ๐Ÿฅฐ.

Here are the results, well done everyone.

Race report by Emma: Blackburn 10K. Official Chip time 55.00. Beat last year’s time of 57.39. So a course PB and 10K PB by a very small 33 seconds. It’s always a cold one for Blackburn! The temperature was a chilly 0 as we set off. As we got off the motorway, the sun was ... Blackburn 10k

Joining Lostock AC has been one of the best things that's ever happened to me. I decided to give it a try mainly to loose weight and meet new people. It's really helped with my weight, mental health and output on life. I've been in the club over a year now. Everyone makes you feel so welcome and I love being part of the Lostock family. My running has definitely improved, especially seeing all the medals I've won. It is not just running, Lostock offers other activities too such as cycling, bootcamp and skiing. All I've had a go at which has just been brilliant. Lostock is my second family . I have entered the Machester marathon next year and an ultra. All this for someone who couldn't run . Everyone has made me feel very welcome in the club, I now consider myself to be a runner and would recommend anyone to give Lostock a try.

I joined Lostock AC to help improve my running and to motivate me to run more often. The club has surpassed my expectations. I am not from Bolton originally and did not have many friends in the area. I now feel part of an extended family. I have been encouraged and supported to run half marathons, marathons and an Ultra. I would never believe this was possible 3 years ago.
