5 Lostock AC members headed to Preston to take part in the Dockland Marina 10k in Preston.
This is a scenic and flat 10k race which starts at the Ribble Pilot Pub on the side of Preston Marina. The race starts with participants completing a partial lap of the marina, then turning left to complete a small loop around a housing estateand then runners join the riverside path and enjoy a tranquil run along the River Ribble. Runners then complete a U-turn, heading back along the river and around the marina.
It was a beautiful sunny day, and this made racing conditions tough with participants slowing down to avoid overheating. Jo had a fantastic run coming second in her age category in 49.42, next was Tony in 52:44, followed by Rachel in 57:34.
Sheila also had an amazing race finishing in 1:03:15 and winning her age category. Stephen followed in 1:15:20.
Checkers competed in the Strange Struggle Fell Race, organised by Fat Boys Running club. This is a fun and friendly 9.9km fell race on a beautiful route, in Hathersage, west of Sheffield. Fell Captain Josie had a busy weekend of racing. On Saturday she completed the Three Shires Fell Race. This is a tough race, starting in Ambleside, covering 20k (12.4 miles) and 4000ft elevation gain. Greenhalgh completed the gruelling race in 3:44:18.
