Lostock fell runners travelled to the Beautiful Bronte Country for the Withins Skyline Fell Race. Starting at the quarry bottom of Penistone, the race covers 6,2mi/830ft of rough moorland up onto the Pennine Way above Haworth. Mark Checkley, Josie Greenhalgh and Rob Sharkey paid their £5 entry, collected the complementary CurlyWurly and headed down to the start line. After a quick safety briefing, the runners head out of the quarry bottom followed by a fast-paced descent onto the moor before a long, narrow climb up to the Stoop Standing Stone. The path opens up and continues over several boggy plateau to the races highest point on Dick Delf Hill before joining the paved path of the Pennine Way. From here, the route begins to drop and passes the ruins of Top Withens before crossing the famous Bronte Bridge. After a short climb up the tourist path, the final mile is good running with the exception of the uphill finish back at the quarry. Sharkey had a great run to finish 40th out of the 197 starters in a time of 56:39. Greenhalgh finished in 62.29 winning her age category followed shortly after by Checkley in 84.26.

Race report by Jo: Our 6th Parkrun Championships fixture took us to our very own Haigh Hall, where 28 Lostockers raced around thick mud that felt more like January than June. Haigh being Haigh, the route gave us its usual mix of hills, more hills, and that one section where you’re convinced the ground is ... Parkrun Championship Haigh Hall
Race report by Josie: On Saturday, I travelled to the beautiful village of Buttermere in the Western Lake District to run The Buttermere Sailbeck Fell Race. A tough 15km (9.3mi)/ 1,315m (4314ft) mountain horseshoe over two distinct ridgelines. Although a relatively short fell race (for me), a lot of elevation is packed into the distance ...
