  5. Wigan Trail 10k Race

Race report by Gareth:

Yesterday saw 17 Lostockers (would have been more but his race sold out 2 months ago) head to Gods own country for the 6th instalment of this years road/trail champs…the Wigan Trail 10K.

The race takes place through the trails of Wigan’s beautiful Greenheart Amberswood Park, situated between Spring View & Hindley. This former mining area has been transformed into a beautiful 160 hectare nature reserve. It’s also a very personal area & event to me, Hindley is my home town & the lake which we ran round twice is where I did my very first ever outdoor run in 2011 at the ripe old age of 38 & the trails of Amberswood is where I used to run 2 or 3 times a week until we moved to Blackrod.

The 10k Trail Race takes in many of the scenic bridleways of Amberswood, following a mixture of terrain from grass trails to wide open gravel paths. The route is flat and open, the trail firm & bouncy & you get pie, peas & gravy at the finish, what’s not to like? 😜.

Lots of excellent performances from those in green, the race for first Lostocker literally went right to the wire with Janet just (2nd FV50) getting the nod over Chris with them both getting exactly the same finishing time. They both also won a prize as first female & male Lostocker (this event gives out special prizes to clubs who have 12 or more entrants). Sally chalked up her 2nd age cat win in the week to be first FV60 💪💪, Andy & Jason had a great battle in the MV55 with Andy prevailing by 17 seconds…he’s getting closer Andy… 😅. Heather ran strongly in her first main champs race of the year to come 3rd FV55 out of 22 & Sheila was another to mark her first main race of the year with a 3rd place, this time in the FV65 cat, well done guys 👏👏.

Pie and peas in the sunshine to finish to round off a lovely morning. Great effort all round, well done everyone. Big thanks to Brian, Emm a & Orla for the on course support & photography.

That’s 3 race reports in a week from me, I’m running out of steam lol. Next up is the Horwich coronation trail race in the midweek champs on the 20th May.

Parkrun Championship Haigh Hall

Race report by Jo: Our 6th Parkrun Championships fixture took us to our very own Haigh Hall, where 28 Lostockers raced around thick mud that felt more like January than June. Haigh being Haigh, the route gave us its usual mix of hills, more hills, and that one section where you’re convinced the ground is ... Parkrun Championship Haigh Hall

Buttermere Sailbeck Fell Race 2026

Race report by Josie: On Saturday, I travelled to the beautiful village of Buttermere in the Western Lake District to run The Buttermere Sailbeck Fell Race. A tough 15km (9.3mi)/ 1,315m (4314ft) mountain horseshoe over two distinct ridgelines. Although a relatively short fell race (for me), a lot of elevation is packed into the distance ... Joining Lostock AC has been one of the best things that's ever happened to me. I decided to give it a try mainly to loose weight and meet new people. It's really helped with my weight, mental health and output on life. I've been in the club over a year now. Everyone makes you feel so welcome and I love being part of the Lostock family. My running has definitely improved, especially seeing all the medals I've won. It is not just running, Lostock offers other activities too such as cycling, bootcamp and skiing. All I've had a go at which has just been brilliant. Lostock is my second family . I have entered the Machester marathon next year and an ultra. All this for someone who couldn't run . Everyone has made me feel very welcome in the club, I now consider myself to be a runner and would recommend anyone to give Lostock a try.

I joined Lostock AC to help improve my running and to motivate me to run more often. The club has surpassed my expectations. I am not from Bolton originally and did not have many friends in the area. I now feel part of an extended family. I have been encouraged and supported to run half marathons, marathons and an Ultra. I would never believe this was possible 3 years ago.

I’m proud to be a member of Lostock AC, it’s an inclusive club with lovely people, there’s plenty of sporting activities to get involved in and the social get togethers are always welcoming and fun.
