The club’s ever-popular annual Treasure Hunt saw members racing around Westhoughton and Aspull in search of answers to a series of clues devised by club member Mark Smith. The event combined running, navigation and problem-solving, with participants covering between four and seven miles in pursuit of valuable points.
With warm sunshine and overgrown sections of the route adding to the challenge, runners battled nettle stings, scratches and plenty of wrong turns along the way. The competition always culminates in a frantic dash back to headquarters, as teams lose 10 points for every minute they finish outside the time limit. Several teams saw their hopes dashed after spending too long hunting for extra clues and arriving almost 20 minutes late.
This year’s event finished in a rare tie. Chris and Florrie Taylor produced an impressive performance to finish within the allotted time and top the leaderboard. However, Ian and Lee Burns, joined by Matt Withers, matched their score despite receiving a points deduction for returning late.
The evening also raised funds for Horwich Foodshare, with members generously donating and helping to raise an excellent £170 for the local charity.
Lostock AC would like to thank Janet and Ian Johnson for once again hosting the event.
