Race report by Tony:
3 shires fell race.
Two lostockers, josie greenhalgh and Tony Marlow ventured to Tilberthwaite in the lake district to take part in the 3 Shires Fell race by Ambleside AC. The race is over 40 years old however due to access issues a couple of years ago the organisers had to run the race in the reverse direction. This has stuck and 170 intrepid runners left Tilberthwaite along the lanes for 1.5 miles to gain the foot of lingmoor fell. Greenhalgh had made a fast start and continued her great recent form to power to the summit of the first hill. A very tricky eroded single file decent back down into the valley saw the runners begin the long climb up to Pike O’Blisco and then down to three shires stone, so named as the boundary point of the old counties of Cumberland, Westmorland and Lancashire. The climb up wetside edge towards the summit of Swirl How followed and at this point Greenhalgh had slowed allowing Marlow to almost catch her! Not to be out done Greenhalgh flew over Wetherlam and down back into the finish, pulling out a 9 minute lead over Marlow by the finish. 21.7 kms and 1670 metres of climb covered. Josie Greenhalgh 3hrs 21m 8th female and 2nd LV50. Tony Marlow 88th Male 11th MV60.
This was the last race in the season long Lakeland Classics Trophy Series in which Josie Greenhalgh finished 4th LV50 and Tony Marlow 7th MV60
