The Easter weekend was not merely for chocolate eggs and on Easter Saturday 8 Lostockers completed in the Rivington Pike Fell Race organised by Horwich RMI Harriers. The race is described as one of the oldest and most historic races in the Country. Starting at the bottom of Lever Park Avenue as the name suggests, participants run to the summit of the Pike around the tower and back down, the race covers 800ft of ascent over just 3.25 miles.
Rob and Shuttlers started strong running up the uneven surface to the Pike. They were followed by Rachel H, Rachel S and James who were slowed by the uneven surface of the climb. James was able to overtake Rachel S on the descent and speed towards the finish. Checkers, Karen and Cathy were in a race of their own, changing position as they ascended.
The run down the pike starts on uneven ground and this is difficult to navigate when trying to gain some speed. When the ground becomes more even and finally turns to tarmac, participants can fly to the finish line, making this an extremely fast finish.
Rob was first across the finish line in 23:01, followed by Shuttlers in 27:48 and Rachel H in 29:36. Other results include Jackson 31:57, Rachel S 33:47, Checkers 35:16, Karen 36:07 and Cathy 36:47.
