  5. Preston Parkrun

Race report by Gareth:

Saturday saw the 4th instalment of this years road/trail champs…Preston Parkrun.

Another fantastic turnout of 19 Lostockers out of a whopping 506 park runners took to the start line on what is a very picturesque three lapper set in Avenham & Millar Parks on the banks of the River Ribble.

Some great performances on what is a pretty fast, tarmac parkrun course. Just one shortish sharp incline just after the start and then you’re pretty much either flat or downhill the rest of the lap..then repeat it twice more lol.

David again showed he’s in great form by cruising past Hazel & myself on the first time up the hill and stretching away out of sight. It was like he was on an escalator and we were all taking the stairs 🤣. A fellow parkrunner said to Hazel & me “bloody hell, look at him go!” or words to that effect 🤣.

Excellent runs from Hazel & Jo to be first & second VW40 & both in the top ten women finishers. Andy confirmed his dislike of tarmac afterwards but still managed to finish 3rd in his age cat and was closely followed by a fast finishing Brian, who’s determined to catch him one day!

Tony Maxwell & Rachel Susan Hancock always seem to finish close together and Saturday was no exception with Rachel coming a fantastic 2nd VW50. Paul was right with them despite having the Manchester Marathon the day after! Chris continues his injury come back with a big smile on his face & Rachel Stevens backed up her Media City 5K on Thursday & Friday track session to get within 2 seconds of a parkrun pb!

Terri & Katie continue to run stronger and stronger and both finished with new parkrun pb’s, well done guys 👏👏. Ian & Lynda were both well under 30 mins with excellent performances & it was great to see Jeanette running back with us and enjoying herself.

Biggest kudos of the day goes to Sheila for winning her age category 👏👏☀️ & to Mark Checkley for cycling there and back and managing a sprint finish and dive for the line reminiscent of Chariots of Fire 🤣.

Well done everyone 💚🖤

Ian Hesketh Memorial Duathlon Race

Race report by Steve: Sunday morning didn’t have the familiar Lancashire chill we’re used but at last it was mild! The atmosphere around the school car park was comfortably warm from the off. The Ian Hesketh Memorial Duathlon — a low-key, friendly affair run by Burnden Roadrunners for the second time — is exactly the ... Ian Hesketh Memorial Duathlon Race

Edinburgh 1/2 marathon

Race report by Jo: When I signed up for this race back in September, I definitely wasn’t expecting to be running in tropical heat in Edinburgh. The day kicked off early with a 5:45am park‑and‑ride bus into the city. The race started at 8am on Potterrow outside the University of Edinburgh’s McEwan Hall. After the ... Edinburgh 1/2 marathon

Joining Lostock AC has been one of the best things that's ever happened to me. I decided to give it a try mainly to loose weight and meet new people. It's really helped with my weight, mental health and output on life. I've been in the club over a year now. Everyone makes you feel so welcome and I love being part of the Lostock family. My running has definitely improved, especially seeing all the medals I've won. It is not just running, Lostock offers other activities too such as cycling, bootcamp and skiing. All I've had a go at which has just been brilliant. Lostock is my second family . I have entered the Machester marathon next year and an ultra. All this for someone who couldn't run . Everyone has made me feel very welcome in the club, I now consider myself to be a runner and would recommend anyone to give Lostock a try.

I joined Lostock AC to help improve my running and to motivate me to run more often. The club has surpassed my expectations. I am not from Bolton originally and did not have many friends in the area. I now feel part of an extended family. I have been encouraged and supported to run half marathons, marathons and an Ultra. I would never believe this was possible 3 years ago.

I’m proud to be a member of Lostock AC, it’s an inclusive club with lovely people, there’s plenty of sporting activities to get involved in and the social get togethers are always welcoming and fun.
