Lostock AC at Preston Parkrun – The New Chapionships Kicks-Off!
This week’s Preston Parkrun was a true winter test, with icy paths and crisp air challenging runners from the start. The course, a scenic three-lap route through Avenham and Miller Parks—features a mix of inclines and flat stretches, with the notorious uphill section demanding grit and determination… especially when it feels like you’re running on an ice rink!
Despite the chill, Lostock AC turned out in force with 34 members among the 590 runners, and the club spirit was as warm as ever. This was the first event in our Monthly Parkrun Challenge Championship, and wow—what a way to start! Month 1 is all about setting a benchmark, and several runners didn’t just set the bar—they launched it into orbit with personal bests.
Highlights from the Lostock:
• Luke, Daniel, and Gill smashed their previous Parkrun records—PB bonus points incoming!
• Paul was first home for Lostock with a cracking 19:58, proving that frost is no excuse for speed.
• Janet led the ladies with a strong 23:52, gliding over the icy paths like a pro.
• Mary stole the show with the highest championship points thanks to an incredible age grading of 87.97%and she did it with style in 27:34!
And let’s not forget the rest of the team 31 Lostock runners braved the cold, conquered the hills, and kept the smiles coming. From sub-20 flyers to those who just wanted to stay upright on the ice, everyone played their part in making this a brilliant club morning.
The icy conditions may have slowed some, but the energy of the Monthly Challenge kept everyone pushing forward. Preston Parkrun remains a club favorite for its beautiful setting and sneaky hills and now, with the championship underway, the race is on. Bring on Month 2!

Race report by Steve: Sunday morning didn’t have the familiar Lancashire chill we’re used but at last it was mild! The atmosphere around the school car park was comfortably warm from the off. The Ian Hesketh Memorial Duathlon — a low-key, friendly affair run by Burnden Roadrunners for the second time — is exactly the ... Ian Hesketh Memorial Duathlon Race
Race report by Jo: When I signed up for this race back in September, I definitely wasn’t expecting to be running in tropical heat in Edinburgh. The day kicked off early with a 5:45am park‑and‑ride bus into the city. The race started at 8am on Potterrow outside the University of Edinburgh’s McEwan Hall. After the ... Edinburgh 1/2 marathon
