The Runthrough Media City race series returned for 2025 on Wednesday. Jo and Rachel S headed to Salford to compete in the 5k.
In a slightly change to the course, the race commenced outside the Lowry Theatre. It was a busy race with over 700 runners competing over two distances. The 5k and 10k start at the same time with 5k runners completing 2 laps and 10k runners completing 4 laps.
It was a crowded start as runners queued on the bridge crossing the Manchester Ship Canal. The gentle slope down from the bridge made this a fast start, runners soon got in to their strides and found their space in the race.
The route then looped the Imperial War Museum, recrossing the Ship Canal, passing the BBC and completing a loop of North Bay before heading back towards the Lowry.
Jo had a fantastic race finishing in 22:10. She was the 33rd across the finish line out of 237 participants, 8th female and third in her age category. Rachel also had a fantastic race achieving a 5k personal best of 25:23, finishing in 56th position and 14th female out of 121.
