  5. Lostock Hall Carnival 5k race

Race report by Gareth:

Lostockers go to Lostock Hall…

Yesterday 20 Lostockers took part in race 9 (I think) of the road/trail champs, the Lostock Hall Carnival 5K.

Allow me to start by saying I bloody hate 5K races, especially flat road ones, blowing out of my arse from the get go, can never get my breath & my legs won’t go fast enough to keep up, rant over!

This race, as the title suggests is part of the Lostock Hall Carnival. And it’s not in Lostock, Bolton it’s an entirely separate place in Preston, a fact which seemed to confuse one or two members (you know who you are 🤣🤣). It’s on closed roads round the streets and housing estates and is a couple of laps with an out and back section which has the only short hill of the race. The carnival itself was just about to get in full swing and we ran past lots of floats with dancers preparing and a bunch of people pretending to be Brazilian for some strange reason and even more strangely some young kids dressed like they were getting married in open topped cars 🤷🏼.

Lots more impressive performances from team green.. Paul Edwards was first back, comfortably under 20 mins while Greg put in a storming performance to be next back with a great PB 👊👊. The race also saw PB’s & sub 25’s for George & Lee, massive well done guys 👏👏, plenty more to come. Big shout outs to Andy, Brian, Janet, Greg & Andy K who did parkrun first before driving up the M65 to do the race.

As is becoming the norm these days there were lots of age category wins from the women of Lostock! Jo was FV40 winner, Hazel FV45 winner, Janet FV50 & Beverley the FV55 winner 👊👊💚🖤. Unfortunately the presentation was a bit of a cock up & Jo had to point out they’d got it wrong to claim her prize & they completely missed out the FV55 category all together and Bev didn’t know she’d won until Sunday morning. Really well done ladies, great running 👏👏👏.

Big thanks to on course support and photography from Jenna, Emma & Orla. And big thanks to Greg for always bringing his massive orange bag that stores all our hoodies!

Well done everyone 💚🖤.

Joining Lostock AC has been one of the best things that's ever happened to me. I decided to give it a try mainly to loose weight and meet new people. It's really helped with my weight, mental health and output on life. I've been in the club over a year now. Everyone makes you feel so welcome and I love being part of the Lostock family. My running has definitely improved, especially seeing all the medals I've won. It is not just running, Lostock offers other activities too such as cycling, bootcamp and skiing. All I've had a go at which has just been brilliant. Lostock is my second family . I have entered the Machester marathon next year and an ultra. All this for someone who couldn't run . Everyone has made me feel very welcome in the club, I now consider myself to be a runner and would recommend anyone to give Lostock a try.

I joined Lostock AC to help improve my running and to motivate me to run more often. The club has surpassed my expectations. I am not from Bolton originally and did not have many friends in the area. I now feel part of an extended family. I have been encouraged and supported to run half marathons, marathons and an Ultra. I would never believe this was possible 3 years ago.

I’m proud to be a member of Lostock AC, it’s an inclusive club with lovely people, there’s plenty of sporting activities to get involved in and the social get togethers are always welcoming and fun.
