On Sunday 3 Lostock AC members competed in the Horwich Triathlon. This is also known as ‘The Race to The Pike’ and is one of the oldest triathlon events in the Northwest.
The Lostockers completed the standard distance race. This starts at Horwich Leisure Centre with a 500m pool swim. Campetitors then take on a 40k undulating cycle ride, the ride starts at the Leisure centre, heading along Chorley Old Road, then up and along Belmont and Bolton Road past Chorley. Competitors then head back toward the leisure centre via long lane. The toughest part of the race is the final 8.6k run that climbs all the way to the summit of Rivington Pike, before descending back to the finish at Horwich Leisure Centre.
Dave Wilkes was the first Lostock AC member to finish in an amazing 2:31:41, securing third place in his age category, shortly after Wilkes was Andy Laycock in 2:34:54. Nikki Hamerton was the star of the event, finishing in 2:41:24 and winning her age category.
