Race report by Paul:

Known as Kona of the north Horwich Tri is a challenging course with a hilly bike route and a run to the pike what’s not to like about that.

Race number collected, Bike Racked and transition set up its a pool swim with a short run to T1. I was feeling ok and ready to go, another event to get ready for the 70.3.

Jumped in my lane at exactly 9.05.15 quickly caught the swimmer in front so went round only to realise my goggles were leaking, stopped and fixed them and they leaked again so decided to just get on with it only for the person I over took to be stuck behind me. Felt abit silly but never mind. Swim time 11.30 abit annoyed but nothing i could do. Short run to T1 total time 13.22. I do take ages in transition, no idea what takes me so long 😅

Onto the bike, I deliberately took the TT with a harder group set to get the most training out of the event. In hindsight a silly idea on an already tough course.

Coming past cowling a taxi did a u turn in front of me swinging to the left then a full u turn. It was down hill and I was going as fast as I could so had to anker the brakes, back wheel skidding missed the side of him by mm’s a few nice words shouted at him and then into T2.

Started running, man my quads were sore HR started to go abit mental so had to slow down abit. I was abit sore so ran then walked and just get up to the pike nothing to prove, saw Steve on my way past wilderswood looking fresh as a daisy cheering each other on, Mike from Burden met me on the climb to the pike so we had a good chat and abit of a laugh. Saw a few other familiar faces and cheering each other on, the one thing I love about triathlons is everyone cheers and supports each other either that or its just becase i look like im about to die so they feel sorry for me 🤣

Finished in 3.03, wanted under 3 really if im truthful but then again what’s 3 minutes. A great training day and I had nothing left at the end so job done

Joining Lostock AC has been one of the best things that's ever happened to me. I decided to give it a try mainly to loose weight and meet new people. It's really helped with my weight, mental health and output on life. I've been in the club over a year now. Everyone makes you feel so welcome and I love being part of the Lostock family. My running has definitely improved, especially seeing all the medals I've won. It is not just running, Lostock offers other activities too such as cycling, bootcamp and skiing. All I've had a go at which has just been brilliant. Lostock is my second family . I have entered the Machester marathon next year and an ultra. All this for someone who couldn't run . Everyone has made me feel very welcome in the club, I now consider myself to be a runner and would recommend anyone to give Lostock a try.

I joined Lostock AC to help improve my running and to motivate me to run more often. The club has surpassed my expectations. I am not from Bolton originally and did not have many friends in the area. I now feel part of an extended family. I have been encouraged and supported to run half marathons, marathons and an Ultra. I would never believe this was possible 3 years ago.

I’m proud to be a member of Lostock AC, it’s an inclusive club with lovely people, there’s plenty of sporting activities to get involved in and the social get togethers are always welcoming and fun.
