  5. Blackleach 5 mile race

Race report by Gareth:

Yesterday 11 Lostockers made the short journey down the A6 to rainy Walkden for race 11 in the main road/trail champs…the Blackleach 5 miles trail race.

A very friendly and well run event this absolutely is, a trail race it absolutely isn’t! A 2 lapper in Blackleach county park on what can only be described as springy tarmac, taking in lovely views of the lake (we won’t mention the M61 bit 😜) this is a very flat race where you can get a good pace going should you feel the need for speed. It’s got a deceptively long out and back section towards the end of the lap which is great for cheering on club mates and also has a really steep camber on the “out” section which makes you feel like you’re going to roll off the edge of the world 🤣.

Andy K shot off & was first back for Lostock in a great time holding off the very strong Greg who also ran a blinder in the battle for Bolton council bragging rights. Jo continued her great form with a tremendous performance and bagged the FV40 prize as she overhauled Philip, on his return to racing after a summer enjoying himself, to be 3rd Lostocker home. Brian & Andy had a battle royal with Brian pipping Andy in a photo finish with Paul continuing his Palma marathon prep in good style. Mary put it all in & was first FV75 to cap a strong run whilst Rachel, Terri & myself enjoyed a more social, chatty race.

Well done everyone, here are the results: https://sporthive.com/events/s/f6888721-7e87-4762-ba62-02757e38d39b/race/51b37c1b-cc97-44f3-a2c4-0591c0363305/team/c1b2ade9-6d38-4f81-86e9-3a199197baf7

Joining Lostock AC has been one of the best things that's ever happened to me. I decided to give it a try mainly to loose weight and meet new people. It's really helped with my weight, mental health and output on life. I've been in the club over a year now. Everyone makes you feel so welcome and I love being part of the Lostock family. My running has definitely improved, especially seeing all the medals I've won. It is not just running, Lostock offers other activities too such as cycling, bootcamp and skiing. All I've had a go at which has just been brilliant. Lostock is my second family . I have entered the Machester marathon next year and an ultra. All this for someone who couldn't run . Everyone has made me feel very welcome in the club, I now consider myself to be a runner and would recommend anyone to give Lostock a try.

I joined Lostock AC to help improve my running and to motivate me to run more often. The club has surpassed my expectations. I am not from Bolton originally and did not have many friends in the area. I now feel part of an extended family. I have been encouraged and supported to run half marathons, marathons and an Ultra. I would never believe this was possible 3 years ago.

I’m proud to be a member of Lostock AC, it’s an inclusive club with lovely people, there’s plenty of sporting activities to get involved in and the social get togethers are always welcoming and fun.
