Wednesday 1st May saw the first of the mid-week championship trail/road races. 19 Lostock AC members headed to Chorley to complete in the Astley Park trail race. This is a 3½ mile trail race covering two laps of the park.
It was a beautiful evening for a run and the sun had dried the ground making it excellent racing conditions.
Paul Edwards was the first to cross the finish line in an amazing 23:27, followed by Dave Parry in 27:11. The first female to complete the race was Hazel Hadfield in an epic 28:30.
Other results include Gaz Foulkes (28:55), Chris Baker (29:08), Greg Kilshaw (29:11), Andy Laycock (29:55), Brian Halton (30:14 – 2nd in his age category), Rachel Hancock (30:27), Mike Berry (30:34), Tony Maxwell (31:27), Heather Soden (31:53), Kerry Jackson (32:48), Rachel Stevens (33:38), Katie Edern (35:40), Sheila Garewal (36:30), Ste Hancock (37:03), Lynda Hardman (37:42) and Karen Taylor (38:08). Race report by Jo: Our 6th Parkrun Championships fixture took us to our very own Haigh Hall, where 28 Lostockers raced around thick mud that felt more like January than June. Haigh being Haigh, the route gave us its usual mix of hills, more hills, and that one section where you’re convinced the ground is ... Parkrun Championship Haigh Hall
Race report by Josie: On Saturday, I travelled to the beautiful village of Buttermere in the Western Lake District to run The Buttermere Sailbeck Fell Race. A tough 15km (9.3mi)/ 1,315m (4314ft) mountain horseshoe over two distinct ridgelines. Although a relatively short fell race (for me), a lot of elevation is packed into the distance ...
