Lostock AC members said goodbye to 2024 by taking part in the Madbull Events Trails and Ales New Year’s Day Fell Race.
The race takes place at Rivington and is started to the sound of the bag pipes. This is a challenging race that covers 7 miles and 1,200ft elevation gain. Participants run along Roynton Road up to Lower House car park, then head towards Rivington Pike. After scaling the Pike, it was downhill and along George’ Lane. Runners were then greeted by another tough climb up Two Lads. Despite being advised that the remainder of the race was downhill, it was an undulating dash to the finish. Parts of the course were muddy and uneven making the conditions difficult but thankfully the rain stayed away.
The first Lostock AC member to cross the finish line was Louise in an impressive 1.14.16, followed by Andy in 1.14.46, Rachel H in 1.19.55, Mary in 1:26:47 (winning her age category), Greg in 1.28.46, Janet in 1.31.08 and Rachel S in 1.37.42.
The race ended with a pint and a pie at the Crown in Horwich and was a fantastic way to end 2023.

Lostockers were on tour at Parkrun this weekend: Katie Edern ran 31:33 at Holyrood Park in Edinburgh to finish third in her age category, while Rachel Stevens produced an excellent run at Oosterplas Parkrun in the Netherlands, finishing in 26:45 to place eighth overall, second female and first in her age category.
On the international stage, Paul Edwards represented the club at the Paris Marathon, completing the iconic race in 3:09:52. The Paris course is widely regarded as one of the most scenic marathon routes in the world, beginning on the famous Champs-Élysées and passing some of the city’s most recognisable landmarks, including the Place de la ...
